What extreme fishing conditions. Cast a Fly splashed the boat last week for the first time. Greeted by bitter cold, winds, and a layer of thin ice. Next day temps in the seventies. Water temps rose ten degrees in six days. The stripers are starting to filter into upper Narragansett Bay. The salinity levels are low with all the past flooding. We’ll see how that plays out as the season progresses. The new Everglades is shipshape, running like a fine watch. We added a new bow rail this year to help stabilized the angler. What a difference it makes when you have a pulpit to grab or lean against the entire day. Several trips already are in the books. Joe Carr from the fly shop of the same name had an extremely pleasant fishing trip with warm weather and flat seas. We scratched around a bit to find some fish. No mother loads, but Joe did have tight lines. Joe Herbert likewise had tougher conditions, higher winds, and poor current flow with a low tide near sunrise. More stripers around each passing day so Joe’s totals were higher. Sorry, no pictures. It seems Joe doesn’t pose for any pictures of stripers less than ten pounds anymore.
